Sha’Carri Richardson has been left off the U.S. relay team and won’t run in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Earlier, she lost her spot in the women’s 100 meters after failing a test for marijuana. Richardson rose to fame in 2019 as a freshman at Louisiana State University, running 10.75 seconds to break the 100 m record at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships.

Christian Coleman, the Olympic 100m favorite before being banned last year over missed drug tests, had his suspension reduced from two years to 18 months on appeal. Coleman is the world indoor record holder for the 60-meter sprint with 6.34 seconds. Coleman's 9.76-second run to win the 2019 world title was the fastest in the world in the past five years and 0.05 quicker than Usain Bolt when he won a third straight Olympic gold in 2016. Coleman will still miss the 2021 Tokyo Games. Coleman is suspended into mid-November for missing three drug tests in a 12-month span, all in 2019.

Marion Lois Jones is a former world champion Track & Field athlete and a former professional basketball player for Tulsa Shock in the WNBA. She won three gold medals and two bronze medals at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, but was later stripped of her medals after admitting to steroid use. Jones did retain her 3 titles as world champion from 1997 to 1999. USADA stated that their sanction "also requires disqualification of all her competitive results obtained after September 1, 2000, and forfeiture of all medals, results, points and prizes". On January 11, 2008, Jones was sentenced to 6 months in jail. She began her sentence on March 7, 2008, and was released on September 5, 2008.
